Europaediatrics Congress 2024 unveils findings concerning Polyoxidonium in managing ARVI in children
The experts gathered at the 11th European Congress of Pediatricians Europaediatrics 2024 reviewed the results of a study exploring the use of the Russian drug Polyoxidonium in pediatric practice.
Maksim Matsiyak, Head of Pediatrics and General Therapy Department at Petrovax, revealed the findings of a new study involving Polyoxidonium in the treatment and prevention of respiratory infections in children.
The study enrolled 2,463 children aged 3 to 6 years with pathology of the pharyngeal lymphoid ring. Before the start of prophylactic therapy, 75% of patients in the drug group and 71.5% of patients in the control group had the 2nd degree nasopharyngeal tonsil hypertrophy. One month after the end of therapy, 80% of patients in the drug group were free of adenoiditis symptoms, 90% had nasal breathing restored and for 60% their nasopharyngeal tonsils decreased in size from the 2nd to the 1st degree of hypertrophy. 75.6% of patients exhibited a lower incidence of respiratory diseases: the figure decreased from 5-8 to 2-3 times a year. At the same time, no improvement in the condition of nasopharyngeal tonsils was found in children in the control group who received symptomatic therapy only.
The experts at the Congress noted the promising nature of an approach with local immunocorrecting agents used in pediatrics and to treat ENT diseases in children.
The 11th European Congress of Pediatrics Europaediatrics 2024 was held from April 17 to 20 in Antalya, Turkey. It is the main scientific event of the European Paediatric Association and the Union of National European Pediatric Societies and Associations (EPA-UNEPSA). It brings together more than 50 national associations involved in promoting children’s health and improving pediatric care in Europe and around the world.
The Europaediatrics Congress takes place every two years. The event allows specialists to exchange experience, the latest scientific information and modern trends in pediatrics and promotes international cooperation in efforts dedicated to preserving and promoting children’s health.
